What's cookin goood lookin?

Ahh, the kitchen. How many wonderful childhood memories surround the heart of the family home? Come to think of it, a lot of my favorite "adult" memories take place in a kitchen as well. There's something about a comfortable kitchen table that welcomes honest and open conversation.

Julia Child said, "Some people like to paint pictures, or do gardening, or build a boat in the basement. Other people get a tremendous pleasure out of the kitchen, because cooking is just as creative and imaginative an activity as drawing, or wood carving, or music." So if the cook is the artist and the food is the medium, let's focus on the studio, shall we?

What would be in your ideal kitchen? My wishlist is  long: fantastic windows (for my indoor herb garden), interesting lighting, mixed metals (I love copper in a kitchen), a neutral base with one accent color, dark floors (herringbone wood perhaps?), tile back-splash, an island made from regular furniture (a hutch, a desk, a dresser), and plenty of quirk and charm.

Don't forget the friends and family hanging around all day.
